With his jazz and blues style of singing and his animated stage delivery, a lot of pop historians view him as the true precursor of what eventually became rock and roll. He was very popular here in Britain , and had 18 chart hits from when the UK charts first started in 1952 through to 1960. This one was a Christmas #1 hit for him in 1956.
