Description
Update: As confirmed by Gary Husband, this is his song "Song for my father", composed and performed by him on piano, Paul Williams wrote the lyrics and sang.
Here's Gary's comment on The Unreal Allan Holdsworth FB group:
Gary Husband: Yes it's my song - "Song For My Father". I wrote the piece and Paul Williams wrote the lyrics. I played that a lot on the first iou tour during the show - alternated by another piece I had called "Prayer". It was a respite on the shows from the band show. We actually recorded this song (Song For My Father) at the Music Grinder as this duet, for (originally) inclusion on the Metal Fatigue album. It was to follow Unmerry Go Round - one dedication to Allan's father (grandfather) and then one dedicated to my dad - who had passed just a couple of years previous, right before the first IOU band period in the US. I think, probably rightfully so, it was considered a little too sad, the two dedications like that. So my piece was shelved. I still have a rough mix cassette somewhere.
I've found this extremely rare track from an IOU concert where Paul Williams and Gary Husband (? not sure....) are performing an incredibly beautiful piano-vocals duet that sends shivers down my spine.
Any Holdsworthologists in the audience who recognize this tune? Who wrote it? Who played?
