Apothecary Diaries is back with more mysteries and adorable Mao Mao + Jinshi interactions, and I can't wait to see what new adventures this new season will bring. The new OP by Lilas Ikuta marks her first anime OP that isn't tied to YOASOBI, but somehow I can't stop hearing the classic YOASOBI instrumentals behind it, especially with that chord progression and the classic compressed piano sound.

The song is pretty straightforward so I don't have too much to write this week. In terms of texture, a lot of the intro sections are monophonic, with the recurring 'da da daaa da da' motif line in the voice doubled by the bass. So I simply play it with octaves in both hands every time it comes up, to imitate that wide range. Otherwise we have a lively left hand accompaniment to imitate the rhythm guitar and drum beat to complement the melody in the right hand. The verse into the chorus undergoes a LOT of key changes which certainly helps keep the harmony interesting and fun to play.

The instrumental break is also a bit wack, there's a very bizzare piano line at () that I still don't fully understand harmonically, but it sounds cool i guess. The section immediately after is what really reminded me of a typical YOAOSBI song, with a calm vocal chorus accompanied by just the compressed piano chords.
