I was listening to the acapella demo tracks Brian recorded for an alternate version of Don’t Talk (Put Your Head Shoulder) late Sunday night and I remembered how I listened to this back in quarantine last year. I really wanted to try it but back then, but I didn’t how to really listen in on it and break the harmony down. Surf’s Up was obviously the learning experience I needed to figure out how to do it, so I spent probably a good hour yesterday listening to it over and over again, trying to figure it out.

I find it a lot of fun to do stuff like this because one, I just really enjoy it, and two, it really makes you learn to listen to individual parts instead of just listening to the whole picture, I think it brings appreciation to each part because they form the whole you hear. I was excited that I finally figured out how to do it, and it’s honestly made me more impressed with Brian. If you look up Brian Wilson - Don’t Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) (demo vocal tracks), it’ll pop up, and I think it’ll blow your mind. It’s only 8 tracks, four parts overdubbed two times. It blew me away when I first heard it, I thought it was so cool how he did it.

When I recorded this, I had to slightly adjust the lowest part so I could sing it. I'm a soprano 1 but from my own curiosity of how high and low I could go, I knew I could get close to it within my range. I wanted to keep it like the original because I love it so much, and I wanted to challenge myself because it’s really fun for me but yeah, that’s what I did! The first video is just me out in the backyard again because I like recording out there, and the second video is the garageband recording I did of it, so enjoy! I highly recommend you listen to Brian though, he’s so talented and he’s just awesome and I have a great admiration and respect for his work. I’ll definitely be doing a cover of the song soon, but I just wanted to share this because I got it stuck in my head again 🤩 Especially this part, this part is just amazing and i really wish this version made pet sounds, but either way, both versions are good 🤧❤️
