Description

Today' s video features another recording by Die Goldene Sieben. "Ich wünsch, dass du mir sagst: Ich liebe dich" (Lit. I wish that you would say to me: I love you) was composed by Georg Haentzschel and Waldemar "Waldi" Luczkowski. The song is well-known in the version recorded by Kurt Hohenberger and his orchestra.

According to the Horst H. Lange discography the musicians on this recording are:

Georg Haentzschel, Kurt Hohenberger, Willy Berking, Franz Thon, Kurt Wege, Adalbert Luczkowski, Hans Korseck, Rudi Wegener, Freddy Brocksieper, Carl Hohenberger, Karl Kutzer, Erhard Krause and Ernst Höllerhagen. Coupled with an instrumental version of the Kirsten Heiberg song "Ja und Nein", it was the one but last record released by Die Goldene Sieben.

The video takes a look at the legendary entertainment complex "Haus Vaterland" near Potsdamer Platz. Initially called "Haus Potsdam" it featured the grand café "Piccadilly" which was renamed "Vaterland" when the First World War broke out. After a massive remodeling of the building's interior, it reopened as "Haus Vaterland" in 1928. It went on to become one of Berlin's legendary entertainment venues. Although the building was damaged by bombing in 1943 Haus Vaterland remained in operation until the massive ai raid of February 2, 1945. Located in the Eastern/Russian sector of Berlin the cafe reopened while the rest of the building remained in disrepair. During the East German uprising in June 1953, Haus Vaterland burned once again. It was never rebuilt. It stood as an impressive ruin on the border of East-Berlin. In 1972 West-Germany and the GDR traded territory and Haus Vaterland was now part of West-Berlin. The ruins - which despite decades of decay were still standing and structurally relatively intact - were finally demolished in 1976. The "Park Kolonnaden" now occupy the site where Haus Vaterland once stood.
