Description
While it only lasted two seasons in its original run, 'The Addams Family' (1964) increased its popularity over years of reruns, resulting in a reunion special, several theatrical films, and a 1998 reboot. It just took a while for the offbeat humor and inspired casting to worm their way into popular culture. The theme song by Vic Mizzy, one of tv's most recognizable tunes, even found its way into commercials. Mizzy took over the show's opening title, picking out the props and directing it himself. Over 20 years later 'The New Addams Family' appeared on Fox Family (and YTV in Canada, where it was produced). Along with original stories, some of the 1964 scripts were reworked with more contemporary jokes, and John Astin himself showed up as 'Grandpa Addams' in a guest shot. The theme, by Barron Abramovitch, is more hectic than Mizzy's but still kind of fun.
