Description
Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme starred in the 1968 Broadway musical “Golden Rainbow,” which featured this now-familiar ballad. Steve’s differently-arranged version which is commonly found elsewhere on YouTube was a track recorded for the “Golden Rainbow” original cast LP, released in March 1968. The earlier single spent 12 weeks on Billboard’s ‘Easy Listening’ (aka ‘Adult-Contemporary’) chart, peaking at #6, though it was the Sammy Davis Jr. recording that would become a widespread hit one year later: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=664pxas3WEs
The original 45rpm single was issued on Calendar 1001 - I’ve Gotta Be Me (Walter Marks) by Steve Lawrence, orchestra conducted by Pat Williams, released November 1967
